Marlin Brando

The Process
  1. First I chose which fish I wanted to do. I decided to make up my own fish rather than paint up an existing one. I roughed out a 3/4 view, side view, and front view.
  2. Next, I drew a larger, a bit clearer pose of the fish. At this point, I had the idea of creating a fish the looks like it's holding it's breath. I thought it would be funny.
  3. When I was satisfied with the design and pose, I built up the form by paying attention the fish's light and shadows. I also experimented until I was able to get the tail look convincingly transparent. I realized too late that I moved away from the "Deep Breath" fish and it was pointed out to me that it started looking like Marlon Brando.
  4. Added stronger shadows and highlight, Worked more on the eyes and finished off the fins.
  5. Added the scales and gill, finished the eye, added textures, put in a background and adjusted the levels. DONE!

Shade/Lighting Test Fail

Tried a different shading/lighting technique. I had issues with how it was going about so I'll just scrap it and try again later.

Not Working Hard Enough

I have a bunch of ideas that I want to do but I keep getting sidetracked/distracted/lazy and it doesn't help that I spend way too much time on a single picture. The end of summer is creeping up quick.

Some of these are distractions that went too far.

meh

Found an old sketch I did of myself. Practicing on that cel-shading colouring.
Still got a ways to go...

Another test...

Artbook Pages

My pages for the school artbook that will hopefully be made. I'm concerned I may have crammed in too much and some images might be too small. The only ones I think are at risk are the Jekyll/Hyde drawings but I'm not real fond of the lines in the first place.

Also! My artbook concept covers. The theme is "Animate Your World" so my idea was to have an animation disc above the earth like a magnifying glass. The image within the disc would've been an animation world and a bunch of random (non-copywritten) characters popping out and escaping through the disc. It was ambitious and I thought I had a chance of pulling it off but finishing up the work for the my personal pages took more time than I thought and I never got beyond these sketches. There's an extension but I've lost all heart for it for now and I have plans for other stuffs.

I was leaning more towards this composition but with the animation disc & Earth a little lower to make more space for the characters/cartoon stuff.
